Summer 2020 Enrollment For New Families

Sprouting Star Children’s Academy is very grateful to have reopened after a brief closure for the COVID-19 pandemic. We are currently accepting applications for a safe and healthy Summer 2020. However, we expect concerns to remain throughout most of the summer. SAFETY IS OUR #1 PRIORITY AT SPROUTING STAR! We currently follow very strict policies and procedures for disease control, and plan to continue many of these policies throughout the summer term from June 1st through August 12, 2020. You can find a discussion of the coronavirus safety measures we are implementing for our Essential Worker Child Care Program HERE.

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER ENROLLMENT STARTING JUNE 1ST.

While we expect to continue diligence throughout the summer term, we do anticipate a few modifications to control guidance from state and local authorities. These include: (1) a lifting of the essential worker attestation requirement, and (2) a loosening of currently very small class size limitations. We are therefore accepting applications for Summer enrollment.

As significant safety procedures will remain, limiting class sizes, we will only be able to offer a very limited number of spaces. If you are interested, please

Step #1 – Choose Sprouting Star

We generally encourage all of our prospective families to come for an admissions tour of our school. It really is the best way to get to know us. At this time, we are unable to permit in-person tours during operating hours while children are in the building. This is for everyone’s protection.

Front entrance
Welcome to Our School!

IN-PERSON TOURS WILL THEREFORE BE SCHEDULED ONLY ON SATURDAY FROM 10AM – 12PM.

ALTERNATIVELY, WE CAN SCHEDULE LIVE ZOOM VIDEO CONFERENCE TOURS DURING OPERATING HOURS.

On your admission tour, we walk you through the school. We show you the arrival process, the classrooms, and the playground. And we answer your questions about the lesson plans and curriculum. If you wish to meet the teacher at this time, we can schedule a zoom video conference meeting.

At the conclusion of your tour, when you know Sprouting Star is the right place for your child to learn, grow and thrive, you receive an enrollment package with the application and additional information to enroll your child.

Step #2 – Complete the Application

At the end of your tour, you need to complete an admission application. WE NOW HAVE A CONTACT-LESS ADMISSION KIT TO HELP PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19. Completing the admission application can be done online, or if you prefer, using our traditional Sprouting Star Admission Kit. You receive an electronic or hard copy kit with the following:

Sign-up Now! Click here to receive an Admission Kit.

STEP #3 – Include Immunization Records

State licensing regulations require all licensed centers to maintain immunization records and a doctor’s well-check letter for all children not enrolled in grade school. We also require a healthcare statement. This is a letter from your child’s doctor or healthcare professional that lists the following: the name of the doctor or clinic, the doctor’s address and phone number, the name of child, and a statement that the child is healthy to attend the school program.

Do I need to provide immunization records for my child?

Yes – If your child is of the ages 6 weeks to 5 years old and NOT enrolled in another primary school program.

No – If your child is attending K-6 and the school has immunization records on file.

If your child has not yet started Kindergarten, you will need to include copies of his or her immunization records with your application. We also need a “well check” letter from the doctor stating that your child is healthy to attend daycare. Pediatricians usually know what information to provide, so simply request these two things from your child’s doctor, and submit them with the application.

If your child is already in Kindergarten or grade school, and you are applying for before or after school care, or one of our school-age programs, immunization records are not necessary if they are on-file with your child’s primary school.

STEP #4 – Prepare Your Child’s Supplies

Your child will require a few items when he or she begins school. These items include:

  • A nap mat
  • Blanket
  • Two sets of extra clothes (in case there is an accident and get dirty)
  • Water cup
  • Diapers and wipes (if applicable)

Make sure you have these items ready on your child’s first day. Nap mats go in your child’s home classroom. Their extra clothes, blankets and diapers go in their cubbies labeled with their name. If you need assistance, the director and teachers are ready to help.

Step #5 – Choose Your Child’s Meals

In the admission kit, you receive information regarding the Sprouting Star Meal Policy and providing information about our catered lunch program. If you will be participating in the LunchDirect catered lunch program, it is time to create your online account and choose your child’s meals. Participation is not mandatory, every family is free to pack their own lunch if desired.

Sprouting Star Teacher Appreciation

Date: May 4, 2020

Subject: TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK MAY 4th – MAY 8th.

To: All Parents and Sprouting Star Familes

We would like to take this opportunity to recognize the teachers at Sprouting Star Children’s Academy for their hard work caring for and teaching your children. This year, above all others, has proven to be a very challenging year for teachers, especially in the last few months. It is fitting that Teacher Appreciation Week should fall on the eve of reopening the center for essential worker families after the pandemic crisis had closed us down temporarily.

I am deeply grateful for the service of each and every teacher at our center. The current pandemic has affected all of them in trying ways. Some of them have had to take unplanned time off. Others enthusiastically took assignments that were not their preferred assignments disinfecting, sterilizing, and preparing the center for re-opening and serving you again. During the preparatory period, whatever the challenge, they all missed your children deeply, spoke of them everyday, and embraced the challenges and new policies and assignments energetically to bring the children back.

It is our custom to post information about our teachers in the entrance during this week so that you can get to know them better. Since some of you are still sheltering at home, we thought it would be beneficial to post them here. If you would like to send them a little note, you can email it to: grow@sproutingstar.org and we will get it to them. If you would like to drop something off, the office is open from 7am-5pm Monday-Friday.

Appreciating Our Teachers

Thank you to all of you! We appreciate you.

Kind Regards,

 John Russo

Essential Worker Child Care Program Safety Standards

Date: April 22, 2020

Subject: LIMITED OPENING FOR ESSENTIAL WORKERS STARTING MONDAY APRIL 27th

To: All Parents and Sprouting Star Familes

Sprouting Star Children’s Academy opens in a limited capacity for essential worker families on April 27, 2020. Due to the continued risk of COVID-19 infection, there are a number of emergency policies and procedures that will be observed during this time to ensure the safety of the children, their families, and the staff. Some of these may create inconveniences, but it was our assessment that opening with these limitations better serves the families providing front-line services than remaining closed. Please read here the extraorinary measures we will be observing to keep you and your children safe until health authorities confirm the risk has passed.

If you would like more information about the current government restrictions on child care centers for essential workers only, and how to sign-up for the Sprouting Star Essential Worker Child Care Program, please CLICK HERE.

Limited Space

We have received a significant response to this program. We have already received 30% more sign-ups than we expected from earlier surveys. We are working to accommodate as many children as possible. But we will likely not be able to accommodate everyone, at least initially. Please be patient as we work to serve you, and keep your children safe at this difficult time. If you have not signed up, but need essential worker care, we encourage you to sign-up now. This way we can complete the necessary paperwork, and contact you as soon as space is available.

We will accept students on a first-come, first-served. Priority will be given to families actively enrolled as of March 20, 2020. Accounts must also be current for all charges incurred prior to March 20, 2020. If there is any outstanding balances, this must be settled before we will confirm enrollment. We will notify you if that is the case. You will also need to complete the required essential worker documentation before enrollment as well.

Safety #1

Safety is our top priority. We are implementing substantial emergency safety policies and procedures. Some of what we are doing includes:

  1. Maximum Gathering Size. Our classrooms will comply with the government orders on maximum gathering size. This is 8 children per class with 2 teachers assigned. This is 50-500% fewer students that state childcare standards.
  2. Social Distancing. Since it is very difficult to get young children to “social distance” we are social distancing the class units. Children will not be permitted to interact with any other classes.
  3. Social Distancing. Teachers will not be permitted to interact with other classes. In effect, they will be “social distanced” from other staff and children other than in their own rooms. Each class will have it’s own 2-teacher team.
  4. Entrance Screening. All persons entering the building will be temperature checked. Entrance to the building during operating hours is limited to students and staff. Parents may enter to inspect the facility, just ask, but drop-off and pick-up will be at the foyer.
  5. Increased Disinfecting. Our teaching staff will be arriving before opening, and staying beyond close to sterilize the classroom and center common spaces.
  6. Shorter Day. We will have limited operating hours, 7am-5pm. This is 2 hours shorter than our typical day. We believe that introducing a “second shift” to extend hours beyond what the 2-teacher team can accommodate introduces more contact between the children and a greater number of staff members. We hope to resume normal operating hours when it is safe. For the time being, it will be safer to limit the number of teachers that interact with your child. We apologize for this temporary inconvenience, but we believe it puts the safety of the children and staff first.
  7. Personal Protective Equipment. Staff will be wearing new personal protective equipment including safety glasses, masks, and clothing. (Children under 10 are not required to wear masks)
  8. Technology. We are replacing the sign-in book with an electronic kiosk that requires minimal touching. Children can be signed in by showing a QRC code to the kiosk. We are also implementing “pay at home” features, so you do not have to enter the lobby to pay your bill.

We Ask Your Patience and Cooperation

These safety procedures are not easy. We apologize in advance for the inevitable inconveniences and we ask your understanding and cooperation. We realize that these procedures may result in the following difficulties:

  1. Work Schedules. The limited hours may not perfectly align with work schedules.
  2. Classroom Closings. It is possible that occasionally we may have to close a classroom with limited notice. For example, if one of the teaching team members becomes sick. For the time being, we are not going to use substitutes, as this introduces more uncertain contact with the children. And we cannot simply put the children in another class because of social distancing between classes. We therefore would need to close the class in such cases.
  3. Unplanned Child Pick-ups. During this time, we are going to be very diligent with health checks while the children are in care. If they appear sick, we will need to send them home until they are well, or we receive a doctor clearance. If this occurs, we will need to promptly remove the child from the class, so we ask your assistance in promptly picking them up.

We realize in advance that these things can be very inconvenient. Again we ask patience and understanding as we try to keep everyone safe in this difficult time. While we regret the impact, we do believe these are the safest policies for everyone.

If you have any questions, please contact the center at (512) 777-3477 or email to grow@sproutingstar.org.

Happy Easter

We would like to wish everyone a safe Easter weekend during these unusual circumstances. Sprouting Star Children’s Academy would like to share some bunny stories with our children on this Easter weekend. Some of our teachers have prepared these special video story times for their classes.

Our first storytime is from the Pete the Cat series, The Five Little Bunnies. We felt it was particularly appropriate at this time of year. Our friend Pete the Cat finds himself responsible for five little bunnies trapped inside the house. Those bunnies just have too much energy and Pete has a hard time controlling them!

Our second storytime is from the book Baby Bunny and the Storm. A scary storm outside frightens our little baby bunny. But he finds comfort inside his home and many things to do that take his mind off of the events outside. Home can be a sanctuary from the tumultuous world.

We hope you enjoy these stories. If you would like to listen to more stories read by our teachers, visit the following website:

UPDATED: TEMPORARY CLOSURE INFORMATION

Date: April 1, 2020

Subject: UPDATED TEMPORARY SCHOOL CLOSURE DURING CURRENT HEALTH EMERGENCY

To: All Parents and Sprouting Star Familes

In accordance with the recent announcements by Governor Abbott and subsequently the local school districts extending school closures until May 4th, Sprouting Star plans to remain closed at least until April 27, 2020. We will evaluate the situation and make a determination if we can open safely at that time.

The safety of the children and staff are our first priority. It is our Sprouting Star Promise to provide a safe environment for the kids. We take that responsibility very seriously. While it is a severe hardship for all of us, government currently estimates a high likelihood that the next few weeks could see very serious illnesses. It is our sincere desire to do our part to protect the children, you and the community. And that seems to require we remain closed for the next few weeks while this passes.

While some centers may try to stay open, the current Travis County Stay Home Work Safe orders permit childcare operations to serve ONLY children of essential services staff. The following is an excerpt from a recent communication from Austin Public Health:

Child care centers and homes are only permitted to provide care to children of exempted individuals under the City/County Order. Please note, this control order is from Austin-Travis County and is not related to Child Care Regulation (Licensing). However, according to Child Care Regulation, child care providers may enroll new children to provide care for exempted individuals.”

Our staff has been reaching out to you, our families, to determine how many of you would qualify under this rule. At present, we have not received sufficient response to justify a limited re-opening for this purpose at this time. If you have not done so already, we encourage you to complete the survey at the link below. Or if your situation has change and you believe you would qualify, you may retake the survey or contact us at the center between 9am and 3pm. We will be continually evaluating this information to determine if a limited reopening is possible. So please do communicate what you need.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8RRS9KG

REMEMBER – Effective March 1, 2020, children in the Workforce CCS Program may accrue absences without impacting ongoing eligibility for services or provider reimbursements. YOUR REFERRAL WILL REMAIN ACTIVE AND ABSENCES DUE TO COVID-19 EMERGENCY DO NOT AFFECT YOUR CARE ELIGIBILITY!

In the meantime, we hope you are enjoying the Sprouting Star Preschool@Home lessons and Storytime videos our staff has been preparing for your children. We plan to continue this program and roll out new ways to support and stay connected to you and your children at this difficult time.

Lessons can be found at: https://sproutingstar.org/2020/03/24/preschool-at-home/

Storytime videos can be found at: https://sproutingstar.org/2020/03/30/storytime/

We regret the situation and our hearts go out to those who have contracted this terrible disease and we mourn the thousands who have already passed. We hope that you and your entire family stay safe, and we look forward to reopening the school as soon as possible. If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Kind Regards,

TEMPORARY CLOSURE INFORMATION

Date: March 22, 2020

Subject: TEMPORARY SCHOOL CLOSURE AS PRECAUTION DURING CURRENT HEALTH EMERGENCY

To: All Parents and Sprouting Star Familes

Effective Monday, March 23, 2020, Sprouting Star Children’s Academy will be closed. We will remain closed at least until April 3, 2020 in accordance with the order from Governor Abbott for public schools and decisions by the Pflugerville ISD.

Over the last few weeks while schools were closing around us, we worked hard to implement all new health control procedures as guidance became available. It was our mission to support you as long as we felt it was safe to do so. As of Saturday evening, there have been 62 confirmed cases of covid-19 in Travis County, and they have moved to phase 5 in their emergency response plan. Phase 5 is the highest phase and indicates sustained community spread. Cases in central Texas continue to rise. As many of you have heard last week, Governor Abbott has already closed all schools through April 3.

In light of the growing threat, and the difficulty obtaining supplies to safely operate, it seems reasonable to suspend operations for a few weeks while it runs its course through the community and to give time for health authorities to assist us with provisions. Sprouting Star will await this and further guidance from the Governor and other state officials to determine when it is safe to reopen.

Important information for Workforce Child Care Services families – Effective March 1, 2020, children may accrue absences without impacting ongoing eligibility for services or provider reimbursements. TWC will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and make a future determination on when this absence policy will conclude. YOUR REFERRAL WILL REMAIN ACTIVE AND ABSENCES DUE TO COVID-19 EMERGENCY DO NOT AFFECT YOUR CARE ELIGIBILITY!

In the meantime, we will be working to determine what instructional support and care can safely be offered and how to deliver it to students. If you need to retrieve your child’s diapers, wipes, creams, etc., we will be available on Monday, March 23, 2020 from 8am to 5pm to bring your items to the front entrance for you.

WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK! As we absorb the guidance from the state and local authorities and evaluate what types of service we can safely offer, your input is important.

PLEASE COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING SURVEY TO HELP US WITH OUR PLANNING AT:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8RRS9KG

We also wish to remind you that breakfast and lunch meals are being distributed by the Pflugerville ISD at 10 different locations throughout the community should you need this service.

We regret the situation and the impact this is having on everyone around the world. We hope that you and your entire family stay safe, and we look forward to reopening the school as soon as possible.

Kind Regards,

 John Russo

If your child has not yet started Kindergarten, you will need to include copies of his or her immunization records with your application. We also need a “well check” letter from the doctor stating that your child is healthy to attend daycare. Pediatricians usually know what information to provide, so simply request these two things from your child’s doctor, and submit them with the application.

If your child is already in Kindergarten or grade school, and you are applying for before or after school care, or one of our school-age programs, immunization records are not necessary.

STEP #4 – Purchase Your Child’s Supplies

Your child will require a few items when he or she begins school. These items include:

  • A nap mat
  • Two sets of extra clothes (in case there is an accident and get dirty)
  • Water cup
  • Diapers and wipes (if applicable)
  • Blanket

Make sure you have these items ready on your child’s first day. Nap mats go in your child’s home classroom. Their extra clothes, blankets and diapers go in their cubbies labeled with their name. If you need assistance, the director and teachers are ready to help.

Step #5 – Choose Your Child’s Meals

If you will be participating in our catered lunch program, it is time to create your online account and choose your child’s meals. Participation is not mandatory, every family is free to pack their own lunch if desired.

Important Meal Ordering Deadlines

You need to choose your child’s meals by the Thursday end of day before the week your child starts school. If you miss this deadline, there is a late deadline of Saturday preceding the week your child starts, however LunchDirect does charge a late order surcharge for orders received on Friday or Saturday.

STEP #6 – The Big Day!

Every child approaches their first day differently. Have patience. Once here, every child develops new abilities, skills, and relationships.
